Softball News & Results:

Clay-Chalkville 10, Homewood 5  Birmingham News, April 07, 2009 8:50 p.m.
Sam Johns went 4-for-4 with a double, home run and three runs batted in. She also pitched 6 2/3 innings and struck out five in leading Clay-Chalkville (14-6). Amber Fronk had three hits for the winners. Laura Gulino had two hits and Chandler Moore doubled in two runs for Homewood.

Clay-Chalkville 1, Pell City 0   Birmingham News, April 06, 2009 9:35 p.m.
Bethany Fronk (11-6) hurled a seven-inning three-hitter, striking out eight in visiting Clay-Chalkville's win over 10th-ranked Class 6A Pell City (22-3). Courtney Edgeworth scored the Cougars' run.

Clay-Chalkville 2, Chelsea 0   Birmingham News, March 28, 2009 11:10 p.m.
Bethany Fronk struck out six, walked none, surrendered one hit over six innings and had an RBI double.
Jennifer Thurman had Chelsea's hit and also stole a base.

Clay-Chalkville 7, Walker 0   Birmingham News, March 28, 2009 11:08 p.m.
Clay-Chalkville 7, Walker 0: Sophomore Bethany Fronk and freshman Sam Johns combined to no-hit Walker. Fronk (10-5) pitched six innings and struck out four while Johns pitched the final inning and struck out one and walked two for Clay (12-5). Regina Richey had a single and double and scored twice for the Cougars while Ashleigh Draft had two hits and an RBI. Amber Fronk had two RBIs for the winners. Karla Kennedy took the loss for Walker.

Clay-Chalkville 15, Shades Valley 0   Bimingham News, March 26, 2009 9:09 p.m.
Regina Richey, Katie Luke and Amber Fronk each had two hits and Richey and Fronk each scored three runs and drove in two as Clay-Chalkville improved to 10-4 on the season and 2-0 in area play. Courtney Edgeworth also drove in two runs for the Cougars. Sam Johns ran her record to 2-0 by pitching a three-inning no-hitter. She struck out four and walked three.

Clay-Chalkville 3, Hewitt-Trussville 1    Birmingham News, March 10, 2009 8:38 p.m.
Sam Johns slammed a three-run home run in the fifth inning and Bethany Fronk made it stand up by pitching a three-hitter as Clay-Chalkville ran its record to 9-2 by beating visiting Hewitt-Trussville. Fronk struck out nine and walked one and the run she gave up was unearned. Jordan McCulley struck out nine for Hewitt-Trussville and allowed only four hits, but the Johns home run was enough to tag her with the loss. Chloe Bunn drove in the Hewitt-Trussville run.

Clay-Chalkville 10, Pinson Valley 0    Birmingham News, March 05, 2009 8:12 p.m.
Regina Ritchey went 2-for-2, hit a double and drove in four runs for host Clay-Chalkville (4-1). Bethany Fronk struck out 10, walked one and gave up no hits over four innings for the Cougars. Teammates Madi Gipson and Ariel Cain each had two hits, with Gipson also having a double and an RBI.

Clay-Chalkville 16, Leeds 0  Birmingham News, February 23, 2009 9:19 p.m.
Bethany Frank and Sam Johns combined to pitch a six-inning no-hitter as Clay-Chalkville beat host Leeds. Frank earned the victory, pitching four innings and striking out seven. Johns pitched the final two innings and struck out two. Neither pitcher allowed a walk.

Frank also had three hits and drove in two runs for Clay-Chalkville (2-0), and Maddi Gipson had two hits and drove in three.


Clay-Chalkville 6, Gardendale 3, February 19, 2009 7:41 p.m.   Host Clay-Chalkville scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Gardendale in the season-opener for both teams. Sophomore Bethany Fronk went the distance, striking out five and giving up three hits to get the win. She also had two hits. Freshman Sam Jons drove in two runs for the winners while Maddie Gitson doubled home another.
